Quasi-Organic communities. Although these communities operate under a transaction regime, they develop norms and behaviors that correspond to those defined by Tönnies. This particularly applies to the Linux community in the information technology arena, but also in other knowledge exchange communities. It can also apply to local communities such as districts, cities or villages.

Organic Communities. These communities have yet to emerge. In organic communities individual expectations and behaviors, and the community’s rules of governance are fully congruent.
